Desperate for peace, people are enjoying this video of a lemon literally rolling down the street

It’s been a tough couple of years. Keeping up with current events is an emotionally exhausting chore.

Which is why, despite how bizarre it sounds, people got so invested in watching this lemon roll down the street for one minute and 51 seconds.

That’s it. That’s literally all that happens in this video. A very determined lemon follows a street curb and rolls downhill for about a quarter mile, trekking through piles of dried leaves and narrowly avoiding a run-in with the tires of a parked car. It hugs the sidewalk, ambling down its little concrete path. At one point, it appears to slow down when it’s apprehended by some leaves clogging a storm drain, but the little lemon that could trudges on for a remarkable 40 seconds more.

If you were struck with both pride and a pang of sadness when the lemon stopped rolling, you’re not alone. For some reason Twitter users are very, very into this lemon’s success.

Others felt conflicted about the total waste of time.

Some justified the time they spent watching a lemon roll down the street (again, a whole one minute and 51 seconds of their lives) as watching a story unfold. Like The Shape of Water or Ladybird, the thrilling saga of this rolling lemon has every marking of an Oscar film: hope. Drama. Heartbreak. Most importantly, it has a bittersweet ending that leaves you wanting more from the story.

OK, this is a massive reach, but sure. This is the part where Twitter gets weird.

The lemon is now safe at home with @sakeriver.

Will there be a sequel? Check in again before next year’s Cannes.
